In the STD.DEV Extended Reality Engine, Image Based Lighting (IBL) is an essential method for advanced lighting simulations. By extracting complex lighting information from image sources, IBL enables a precise and coherent integration of light into virtual environments.

The engine supports both CubeMaps and Equirectangular Maps to efficiently use 360-degree lighting information. An additional advantage is the ability to procedurally generate lightmaps, which ensures adaptive lighting management for different requirements. This opens up extended options for STD.DEV in the design and adaptation of specific lighting scenarios for their individual Extended Reality projects.
