GLTF Import

The GLTF import is an integral part of the STD.DEV Extended Reality Engine and enables the reading and processing of 3D models and scenes in GLTF format. GLTF, which stands for GL Transmission Format, is an open standard format for the transmission of 3D models.

By integrating this format into the engine, STD.DEV is able to use 3D models from programs such as Maxon Cinema 4D, Maya, 3D Studio Max, Houdini, and Blender in its Immersive XR Experiences.

There are two main variants of GLTF: the open GLTF and the binary GLB. The open GLTF consists of several files that keep model data, textures, shaders, and other assets separate. In contrast, the GLB format encapsulates all these elements in a single binary file. This property can contribute to improved loading speed, especially for mobile XR applications.

The STD.DEV Extended Reality Engine offers support for both formats, ensuring flexible and efficient processing and display of 3D content.
