Font Import

The Font Import of the STD.DEV Extended Reality Engine is used for the efficient reading and processing of fonts in OTF format. This importer takes the vector information of the individual glyphs from the OTF files and converts them into a data representation optimized for the engine. It is of particular importance that essential font features, such as kerning parameters, are taken into account and preserved during the import process.

On the basis of this optimized data representation, the engine is able to generate high-resolution glyph maps for text rendering at runtime. This includes the creation of signed distance fields, triangulated glyphs, and other processing forms that are used within the engine's dynamic font rendering system.
