Directional Lights

Within the STD.DEV Extended Reality Engine, Directional Lights represent a method for effectively displaying large-scale lighting scenarios. They simulate light coming from a specific direction and illuminate a scene uniformly - similar to sunlight on a clear day. Since Directional Lights are considered to be infinitely far away, they have no specific origin in the scene.

To expand the lighting options, the STD.DEV Extended Reality Engine offers the option of visualizing the light source in the form of a disk. By adjusting its size, reflections on object surfaces can be displayed with a certain softness, creating a realistic lighting image. In combination with other light and shadow methods, this ensures an authentic representation of daylight situations in Extended Reality applications.
